In this limited edition serigraph Shemuel Katz depicts the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem. The perspective and the vividness of colour serves to highlight the vibrancy of the biblical tradition. The dissonance between the contemporary style and traditional theme illustrates the interplay between secular societal trends and the upkeep of traditional Judaic culture. This juxtaposition between the imagery of the Jewish quarter, and the clear outline of the Dome of the Rock, with its significance to Islam, points to the idea of a multicultural Jerusalem. The whimsical pastel tones help usher in the idea of cultural unity. The serigraph is printed on paper and signed by the artist in the bottom right corner.
